Liam is in Cheverly in a foster home and is still looking for his forever home. Check out his petfinder page, and his new photos! Liam is completely housetrained and cratetrained. He's good with other dogs and loves long walks. He's a mellow fellow who would love to meet you!

We desperately want to pull this 5 month old orange tabby from PG, an overcrowded shelter before, its too late but we need a foster or an adopter. We can have him vaccinated and neutered by next Thursday if we just have somewhere for him to go.

Please offer to adopt or foster him. You can even do a trial adoption. We even have some supplies you can have such as a litter box , bowls etc.

Female pit found in Cheverly-- now at Washington Humane

This dog (not the fuzzy one) was found on Tremont Ave this afternoon - very friendly, no identification, but has a collar, female and very strong. She approached residents while in their yard and did not object to being put on a leash.

The folks who found the dog took her to Washington Humane. If this is your dog, please contact Washington Humane to reclaim her at 202-576-6664 (New York Avenue) or 202-723-5730 (Georgia Avenue).

This is the 9th annual Cheverly Dance ( we just made that up) but it's important that you're at this one.  With red-hot music by Soul Revolver, Cheverly's own Beatles cover band, a tremendous selection of food (brought by you) and and tremendously fun and cool group of people to be around, you'll not want to miss it. 

So here are the details.  Email us at chvblog@gmail.com for tickets, and we'll have some ticket buying options soon.  Tickets are cheap, $10 apiece until May 26th, and $15 apiece until the 29th.  The ChvProm will provide the band, the location, ice, mixers and flatware.  You need to bring your own booze ( feel free to drop off some samples at our table) , and a finger food dish to share.

Last name F - J: Savory vegetarian dishes

Last name K - O: Savory carnivorous dishes

Last name P - Z: Desserts & sweetness

Full tables will be sold on a first-come first serve basis at $100 per table ( 10 seats)  

Any funds left over from ticket proceeds will donated to local non-profit organizations, so get your grant-writing skills ready

Compassion Watch on Prince George's CTV

There is a link between the various forms of cruelty -- spouse abuse, child abuse, elder abuse, and animal abuse. They all result from a lack of respect for living creatures, be they companion animals or our fellow humans. We at Prince Georges Feral Friends, SPCA, think that there is a good reason why Prince George's County has the second highest rate of crime in the state, and one of the highest kill rates in the country in our Animal Management facility. The new public access TV program, "Compassion Watch" will soon be hosting Dr. Ken Shapiro, CEO of the Animals and Society Institute, who will explain "The Link" between animal cruelty and other forms of violence.

Prince George's County sets a very bad example by showing little regard for the life of the animals or the citizens. For the second time in two years the contractor at the Animal Management Division facility has chosen NOT to renew their contract because of the county has failed to allow them to accomplish their mission of saving animals, increasing adoptions, reducing the kill rate, working with the community, etc. According to the County Budget 2007, the number of animals handled at that facility is increasing by about 2,000 every year and the percentage of those animals handled that are adopted into homes is decreasing -- now at about 11%. At the same time, by simply changing policies, Suzanne Kogut, director of the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA, an open admission shelter, increased their adoption rate from about 10% to over 90% in less than two years. Suzanne will also be a guest on a future program and will explain what she did to turn their failing shelter around.

Meet citizens of Prince George's County who have been harassed by Animal Management Division employees, accused of violations of non-existent laws, and fined thousands of dollars, simply for exercising compassion for homeless animals. Hear about what it is like to experience a hearing before the Commission for Animal Control, where the Animal Control Statute and even the Commission's own Rules of Procedure take a back seat.

You will also learn useful information from Christina Chambreau, DVM, author of "The Healthy Animal's Journal", who will explain some of the early signs of disease that can help you to keep your companion animal healthy.

... all this and lots more -- to teach compassion by promoting the positive experience of the human-animal bond.
