Liam the hound needs a home--he's in Cheverly now!

Meet Liam with the alluring eyes (one brown and the other blue)! He is a seven year old white and tan English Coonhound who is extremely well trained and a trim 65 lbs. He is here in Cheverly!

Liam loves to take long walks and long naps. He lets out a groan every once and a while to signal his contentment. He is as happy running in the outdoors as he is curled up in his crate. If he finds a sunny place in your home, he’ll make it his own.

Liam needs a strong leader - he was part of a hunting pack and then lived in an outside kennel for most of his life so he does best if he understands the home hierarchy. But once he does, he's VERY obedient and well-mannered. He'd do best in a fairly quiet home - he likes routine.

Liam is not a picky eater and sleeps through the night on his mat. Unlike most hounds, he’s not a barker. He's solidly housetrained and likes his crate for a nap. He gets along well with other dogs and responds to a variety of commands. He even kneels down to say his prayers! He is intelligent and can learn new commands fairly easily. He does not shed much most of the year and is easy to bathe.

Liam is quite endearing when he rests his head on your lap and looks up into your eyes. Although he's been in a wonderful home now for sometime, his owner can no longer keep him - the house is a fairly active one (doubling as an office) and Liam is uncomfortable meeting new people without his owner/leader being present. Thus, we're looking for both a foster and an adopter for Liam. He's a really good-natured and well-mannered fellow - would you be interested in meeting him?

Breed Estimate: he's 100% coonhound
Sex: male
Approximate weight: 65 pounds
Approximate age: 6-7 years old
Location: DC area home; he needs a foster home
Cratetrained: yes and 100% housetrained
Coat Type:
short and soft
Personality: friendly and eager to please, although requiring a strong "pack" leader

Lost rescue dog in Anacostia--Midnight

Midnight, a Rottweiler/Shepherd mix, got loose from his new adopters in Anacostia, DC(adopted from Lost Dog and Cat Rescue). They are trying to get him back, but need help. He has been spotted 4 times since Saturday, roughly in the same spots. He is hanging out in Ft. Dupont Park. The adopters need an extra-large humane trap, cameras, and assistance both with flyering and monitoring feeding stations and traps. Please let us know if you can help!

If you see this dog, please call 301 785 9778. Flyer available upon request.

Thanks!

Kitty found!

Just wanted to thank everyone who helped look for Cookie. She turned up in a trap that was set up in her back yard in the middle of the night last night. She's very happy to be home and being very vocal about it.

Thanks to all the people who spent time driving/walking around looking for her.

Missing Black/Orange Tortie Cat

A friend came home today to find his indoor only cat missing. After 3 different people searched the house from top to bottom, checking ceilings, walls, closets, pretty much everywhere: she is still gone. It's extremely bizarre and all we can think is maybe she slipped out, which is out of character for her.She is an indoor only cat and has never had to fend for herself. She's 10 lbs. A black & Orange Tortie. She is friendly, but probably very scared. She answers to Cookie.
She lives near the intersection of Valley Way & Dewey.

Please, if you see this cat try to detain her and call me on my cell at 301 512-6821 and I will rush over.

A Message from the PG County Shelter

The Prince Georges County Shelter (MD) has been hit hard by the current economic crisis. We continue to struggle with the management of large quantities of animals surrendered by citizens, unclaimed stray animals and an almost 50% decrease in adoptions.

We need immediate and ongoing help, please be aware that approximately 30 new animals enter our shelter DAILY! We have 116 holding cages for dogs and 25 cat holding cages. This weekend alone 29 cats entered the shelter. As hard as we try we cannot house all the animals that enter the facility for any extended period of time. Please be aware that even a one days' delay in picking up a rescued animal can cost another animal its life.

We implore you to continue to take animals from our facility but please do so as quickly as possible. Contact us by e-mail
jeree.hamlet@ gmail.com (@gmail.com) in addition to amhoward@pg. co.md.gov (@pg.co.md.gov) . In addition, please disseminate our information to any rescue organizations that may be able to help us.
